The collaboration focuses on leveraging AI and cloud technologies to enhance customer and business interactions.
Vodafone and Microsoft Corporation have announced a significant 10-year strategic partnership, intending to leverage their combined strength to offer advanced digital platforms for over 300 million businesses, public sector organizations and consumers across Europe and Africa.
The collaboration will focus on several key initiatives. Firstly, it aims to enhance Vodafone’s customer experience by utilizing Microsoft’s generative AI technology. Another significant aspect is the scaling of Vodafone’s managed IoT connectivity platform, expected to evolve into a separate, standalone business by April 2024. This move will facilitate the growth of new partnerships and customer bases, expanding its reach to connect an even broader array of devices and machines.
Vodafone plans to invest US$1.5 billion over the next decade in cloud and AI services developed jointly with Microsoft. In return, Microsoft will utilize Vodafone’s connectivity services. The partnership also focuses on developing new digital and financial services targeted primarily at SMEs in Europe and Africa, overhauling Vodafone’s global data center cloud strategy.
The digital services resulting from this partnership will leverage the latest generative AI technology, aiming to provide personalized and differentiated customer experiences. These services will adhere to unbiased, ethical privacy and security policies within Vodafone’s framework for responsible AI.
Margherita Della Valle, Vodafone Group chief executive, emphasized the significance of the partnership with Microsoft. “This unique strategic partnership with Microsoft will accelerate the digital transformation of our business customers, particularly small and medium-sized companies, and step up the quality of customer experience for consumers,” she said.
Satya Nadella, chairman and CEO of Microsoft, highlighted the transformative potential of the latest AI technologies. “We are delighted that together with Vodafone we will apply the latest cloud and AI technology to enhance the customer experience of hundreds of millions of people and businesses across Africa and Europe, build new products and services, and accelerate the company’s transition to the cloud,” he added.
