THINK Surgical Integrates LINK’s Knee System for Surgical Precision

The collaboration aims to offer more personalized knee replacement surgeries.

THINK Surgical, Inc., a pioneer in orthopedic surgical robots, has announced a new collaboration with Germany’s Waldemar Link GmbH & Co. KG (LINK), a leader in joint replacement solutions. This partnership will integrate LINK’s LinkSymphoKnee System into THINK Surgical’s ID-HUB™, an exclusive database of implant modules designed for use with the TMINI™ Miniature Robotic System.

Dedicated to offering an open platform that accommodates implants from various manufacturers, THINK Surgical is enhancing the versatility available to surgeons utilizing the TMINI system. This approach aims to facilitate more personalized and precise surgical outcomes. The TMINI system, known for its wireless robotic handpiece that aids in total knee replacement surgeries, received its 510(k) clearance from the U.S. FDA in April 2023.

The incorporation of the LinkSymphoKnee System into THINK Surgical’s ID HUB database is set to provide LINK’s U.S. customers with access to advanced robotic-assisted technology for total knee replacements. Development of the implant module is underway, with THINK Surgical planning to seek FDA clearance for the use of the TMINI System with the LinkSymphoKnee System in the near future.

Stuart Simpson, President and CEO of THINK Surgical, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration. “LINK has a long history of innovative product development and embracing cutting-edge technologies. We are excited about this new collaboration with LINK that will enable even more choice for customers and patients in the U.S.,” he said.

Peter Willenborg, CEO of LINK, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the significance of handheld technology as the next step in the evolution of robotic surgery.

“Handheld technology represents the next evolutionary leap in robotic surgery, particularly for new users and outpatient surgery centers,” he added. He noted that this partnership not only demonstrates a shared commitment to innovation but also promises to enhance patient care by combining THINK Surgical’s robotic technology with LINK’s advanced total knee arthroplasty (TKA) system, the LinkSymphoKnee.
