The collaboration of Nokia and Dell expands infrastructure and wireless offerings to accelerate telecom transformation and edge innovation.
Nokia and Dell Technologies have announced an extension of their strategic partnership, aiming to leverage each company’s strengths and leading solutions to promote open network architectures in the telecom industry and enhance private 5G applications for businesses. This collaboration brings together Dell’s infrastructure solutions and Nokia’s private wireless connectivity expertise to support the telecom ecosystem’s advancement.
Under this agreement, Nokia will designate Dell as its preferred infrastructure partner for its existing AirFrame customers, recommending Dell’s technology, including Dell PowerEdge servers, as the primary infrastructure for telecom cloud deployments. These servers are designed specifically for modern telecom network workloads, spanning from core to edge to Radio Access Network (RAN). The transition plan for existing AirFrame customers to Dell’s infrastructure portfolio will be managed jointly by Nokia and Dell, aiming for a seamless migration process.
Enhancing enterprise solutions
Furthermore, Dell will adopt Nokia’s Digital Automation Cloud (NDAC) private wireless solution as its preferred platform for enterprise edge use cases. The partnership also includes efforts to integrate NDAC with Dell NativeEdge, Dell’s edge operations software, to offer enterprises a comprehensive and scalable solution.
Dennis Hoffman, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Telecom Systems Business at Dell Technologies, emphasized the goal of scaling modern telecom networks and private 5G applications through the combined expertise and distribution networks of both companies.
“With our decades of digital transformation experience, we’re ready to work together with Nokia’s customers to continue their network cloud transformation journey on the industry’s top selling compute platform,” he added.
Mutual benefits and future collaboration
Nishant Batra, Chief Strategy and Technology Officer at Nokia, discussed the mutual benefits of the partnership, noting that Dell’s global scale and digital transformation expertise would offer a smooth transition for Nokia AirFrame customers.
“In line with our technology strategy, our continued collaboration with Dell will help address the future needs of our customers brought on by the increasing demands on networks and provide solutions to help communications service providers scale modern networks to the cloud,” he remarked.
In addition to infrastructure partnerships, the companies will enhance their existing research and development efforts, focusing on core network functions and collaborating on platform and application testing and lifecycle management within the Dell Open Telecom Ecosystem Lab. The certification of workloads on Dell Telecom Infrastructure Blocks for Nokia Cloud offerings and continued OEM engagements are also part of their joint plans. This partnership marks a significant step in addressing the evolving requirements of the telecom industry and scaling network solutions to the cloud.
