Oracle Database@Azure Launches in Europe Through Microsoft Collaboration

Oracle Database@Azure’s expansion reflects growing demand, offering localized services in key global regions through Microsoft and Oracle’s partnership.

Microsoft Corp. and Oracle are extending their collaboration to meet the increasing demand for Oracle Database@Azure worldwide. This expansion will see Oracle Database@Azure becoming available in five additional regions, bringing the total planned multi-cloud availability to 15 regions globally.

According to Erin Chapple, Microsoft CVP Azure Infrastructure Product and Design, the expansion includes Oracle Database@Azure’s debut in Europe, starting with the Microsoft Azure Germany West Central region in Frankfurt. This marks a significant milestone in offering local Oracle database services on OCI hardware within Azure data centers.

“The expansion of our collaboration with Oracle demonstrates our mutual commitment to help customers streamline the migration of workloads to the cloud so they can combine the best of Oracle with the breadth of Microsoft cloud services, like Azure AI, to empower business innovation,” Chapple remarked.

Echoing Chapple’s sentiment, Karan Batta, Senior Vice President of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, has expressed enthusiasm for the growing customer interest and the broad adoption by Global 500 companies across various sectors. “The increased uptick in demand and emerging and unified use cases across OCI and Microsoft Azure demonstrate just how important the multicloud deployments are for our joint customers,” Batta added.

To address the increasing customer demand, the service will soon be available in various cloud regions worldwide, including Australia East, Brazil South, Canada Central, France Central, Central India, Italy North, Japan East, Southeast Asia, Sweden Central, United Kingdom South, Central United States, South Central United States and United Arab Emirates North.

Addressing enterprise cloud migration challenges

“Enterprises that use offerings from multiple vendors are having a hard time moving their workloads to the cloud,” said Holger Mueller, Vice President and Principal Analyst at Constellation Research. The collaboration between Microsoft and Oracle provides enterprises with an innovative approach that allows for seamless integration and the delivery of Oracle services through Azure’s console, simplifying the cloud migration process.

“It is no surprise that Microsoft and Oracle are now doubling down on the customer momentum and expanding their partnership with more locations. This will give more enterprises the chance to move their mission-critical workloads to the cloud,” Mueller said.

Benefits of Oracle Database@Azure on OCI in Azure Datacenters

Customers utilizing Oracle Database@Azure on OCI in Azure data centers will enjoy a range of benefits designed to simplify and accelerate the migration of Oracle databases to the cloud. These advantages include compatibility with Oracle Zero-Downtime Migration tools, high database performance, scale, availability and pricing parity with OCI.

Additionally, customers will experience the simplicity and security of a unified operating environment within Azure, consistency with on-premises Oracle Database and Oracle Exadata deployments and the opportunity to develop new cloud-native applications using both OCI and Azure technologies. Unified customer support, simplified purchasing through the Azure Marketplace and the ability to leverage existing Oracle and Microsoft licenses and discount programs further enhance the customer experience.
