What to Expect from Flipkart’s 10th Annual Big Billion Days

What to Expect from Flipkart’s 10th Annual Big Billion Days

Flipkart’s Big Billion Days returns, bringing a blend of technology and festivity to the Indian e-commerce landscape.

India’s prominent e-commerce giant, Flipkart, is set to commence its annual event, The Big Billion Days (TBBD), from October 8 to 15, with early access for Plus customers starting October 7. This year marks a significant milestone, as the event celebrates its 10th edition, reflecting Flipkart’s sustained influence over the past 15 years.

CEO of Flipkart Group, Kalyan Krishnamurthy, expressed the significance of this 10th edition of TBBD, “The Big Billion Days this year is a special one, not just for Flipkart, but for the entire ecosystem, as we step into this milestone 10th year.” He underscores Flipkart’s pivotal role in fostering growth across diverse sectors, including the extensive seller network, the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), brand partnerships and kirana (mom-and-pop stores) allies. TBBD extends beyond a sale event, emerging as a pan-Indian festivity, intertwining various entities and transcending demographic and geographical delineations.

Spotlight on special features of TBBD 2023

Key features for this year’s event include the following:

1. Technological infusions

The integration of “Flippi”, an AI-powered conversational assistant, will emulate in-store guidance, providing expert advice and simplifying the purchasing journey for customers. Similarly, “Vibes”, an interactive short-video browsing feature, will facilitate product discovery and procurement directly from the platform, adding a layer of convenience and inspiration for shoppers. Furthermore, the integration of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) capabilities will empower customers to visualize products in real-world settings, thereby making informed purchasing decisions.

To bridge the void between online and offline shopping realms, Flipkart is introducing a one-to-one video assistance feature, allowing customers to engage in real-time video dialogues with skilled sales associates for bespoke recommendations. Additionally, a co-tenancy model named “Flipverse” will fashion a unified Virtual World where numerous brands can cohabit and collaborate, offering consumers a 3D-rendered feature to explore brand showrooms, thereby enriching the shopping experience.

2. Expansive seller network

The wide-reaching impact of Flipkart is reflected through a 27% year-on-year growth, enlisting over 1.4 million sellers into its platform. The “Flipkart EDGE” initiative, particularly its third phase, unveiled in July, introduces seller-centric policies—Pricing Recommendations, Rewards Platform, Fulfillment and Speed Initiatives and Guidance Assistance—which significantly buttress MSMEs and underscore Flipkart’s unwavering commitment to bolstering Indian entrepreneurs.

3. Affordability and financial inclusiveness

Affordability is paramount, as Flipkart allies with ICICI Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank, offering 10% instant savings on varied transactions. Collaborations with Axis Bank and Paytm UPI diversify savings and cashback offerings, while a No-cost EMI facility extends to Bajaj Finserv EMI Network Card holders and credit/debit card users from leading banks.

4. Rewards and enriched services

Plus members will benefit from early access to deals and higher SuperCoin redemption offers. The newly introduced Flipkart VIP Subscription Program will offer more benefits for a yearly fee of Rs. 499 (US$6). Additionally, repair, installation and maintenance services will be accessible at affordable prices in selected cities. Moreover, metro city residents can avail of same-day mobile repair services.

5. A festivity like no other

Brand stores will be launched for a unique shopping experience. The event will also feature personalized advertising efforts, influencer marketing and on-app engagement across various platforms. Adding to the festive mood, Indian celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Alia Bhatt and Allu Arjun will be part of the celebrations.

In essence, Flipkart’s Big Billion Days is more than a shopping festival, aiming to combine technology, commerce and celebration, and attempting to bring various sectors of India under a singular e-commerce platform during the festive season. With a celebrity ensemble poised to grace the event, the stage is set for a mesmerizing meld of excitement, innovation and festivity across the Indian subcontinent.
